Arsenal vs Manchester United: Who’s Played For Both Sides?

Arsenal face Manchester United at The Emirates in the late afternoon kick-off on Saturday.

With Danny Welbeck set to appear against his former club and boyhood idols and Robin Van Persie once again set to face the side he left 2 seasons ago in search of trophies.

I started to think about what other players have appeared on both sides in this fixture specifically those that have moved directly from one to the other.

The first player to cross the divide was David Herd who played for Arsenal first having signed for them from Stockport for £10,000 in July 1954.

DavidHerdHe didn’t really establish himself the Arsenal team until the 1956/57 season when he scored 18 goals in 28 games,  from that season on Herd was Arsenal’s top goalscorer for the next four seasons.

Due to Arsenal’s lack of success in this time he became unsettled and moved to Manchester United in search of trophies (sounds familiar).

He moved to Manchester united for £35,000 in July 1961. At United he achieved the success he craved, winning the 1963 FA Cup, scoring two goals in final against Leicester City.
