England continued to dominate their tour match against a South African Invitational XI as they finished day two with a lead 381 after bowling out the home team cheaply.
England declared on their overnight score of 470/5 and quickly went about bowling out their hosts for 188.
Stuart Broad took 3/18 while Mark Footitt and Ben Stokes took two wickets apiece. Footitt taking 2/51 in his first appearance in an England shirt. While Stokes showed his abilities with the ball after his century yesterday by taking 2/25.
Broad struck with the fourth ball of the innings and conceded only six runs in his first four overs. Footitt shared the new ball with Broad and despite being hit for nine boundaries in his 12 overs, he will be happy with his first day’s work in a England shirt.
Having bowled their opponents out cheaply, England set about piling on the runs and will look to seal the victory as soon as possible on the final day.
Once again Alex Hales could only make 8, while captain Cook fair slightly better in the second innings, making 37 before being out to an LBW decision. England finished the day on 99/3, with Root (26) and Ballance (5) the not out batsmen.
With the 381 lead going into the final, surely England will look to give some more time in the middle to some of their batsmen before declaring and bowling out their opponents cheaply again to seal the win.
